CHANEL IN CUBA

On May 3rd 2016, The French Fashion House Chanel will premier its Cruise 2017 Collection in Havana, Cuba. This will be the first time Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld has presented a show in Latin America, coincidentally this will also be the first fashion show to premier in Cuba.

According to Lagerfeld, the choice on Havana, Cuba was based on the “cultural richness and recent openness of the island to the world, which makes it a source of inspiration.” In addition to the Cruise 2017 Collection fashion show, Factoria Habana is to host “Obra en Proceso/Work in Progress” as part of a month long celebration of French culture in Cuba organized by the Alliance Française. Work in Progress is a survey of Karl Lagerfeld’s photography, reflecting his brilliantly skilled usage of a host of cameras and printing techniques. The exhibit showcases 200 photos of subjects that interest Lagerfeld, such as Fashion, Architecture, and Landscapes. Work in Progress is on display April 28 to May 12, 2016.

The arrival of Chanel to the once lost city Havana is not only to bring French culture and glamour to the island but inspiration and hope for a rebirth. A process which Cubans have already been experiencing in the last few months. This includes The first visit of an American president in 80 years, a concert by The Rolling Stones, and now Karl Lagerfeld. Clearly Chanel has decided Havana, Cuba is the place to be this summer.
